YOU ARE NOT MY GURU

I’ve just had a long conversation with an old friend, we chatted about influencers, podcasts and the whole ‘guru’ scene. I used to resist all this stuff. I ‘sniffed’ at it, labelled it as phoney and inauthentic. To me it seemed to all be about trying to sell me expensive 3-day masterminds that will Transform my life/ Make me happier/ Make me rich – delete as appropriate.
However, I’ve put a toe in the water recently and discovered that if you find the right one(s) they can help. I had been recommended Tony Robbins (not for me though), I started his film on Netflix twice and had to switch off. If you haven’t seen it, give it a go.
Let me know what you think.
I switched it off both times at the bit where he gets the female attendee to break up with her boyfriend, in that moment at the event, in front of everyone. Weird. However, I know two people who have been influenced by him with dramatic and positive effects.
Then there’s David Goggin’s my old (female) friend swears by him and credits him for influencing her inability to run for more than a minute on the running machine to being able to run marathons. Again not for me, all a bit too military and macho.
However, I’ve surprised myself , I really love Mr ‘motor mouth’ Gary Vee though I’m pleased that I can pause him, and I would really like it if one day he is asked a question and he says he doesn’t know the answer, or even just took a breath.
He talks kindness and action over endless planning plus he puts out lots of content out for free.
Mel Robbins (no relation to the other Robbins) and the brilliant Brene Brown are both regulars on my air pods.
It's horses for courses. I would recommend that you open your mind, don’t spend any cash – there’s loads of free content out there. These gurus don’t have all the answers, though somebody needs to tell Gary Vee this!
